That's actually a fairly common way of checking for exhaust leaks on piston engine aircraft. Lots of single engine planes use
a heater "muff" around the exhausts to supply cabin heat so carbon monoxide can be an issue.
Soak it all with Kroil or PB Blaster for a few days.
Find every wrench, socket, extensions, universals and ratchets in your entire garage that are the correct

Circle the car three times counterclockwise while cursing loudly.

I finally changed my mufflers to the Walker's suggested earlier in this thread.
At idle they sound very similar to the Flowmasters, a bit quieter at full throttle.
Keep in mind this is a little 273 with an automatic. Still a deep tone, slightly

I just ordered the Walker Dynomax suggested above.
It'll be at least a couple of weeks before I get time to install
them.

Thanks for the ideas.
Dave

Dave
Thanks for the reply's.
They're Flowmasters, the numbers are on them but I didn't look that close.
From my eyeball size recollection I'd guess them to be a 50 series.
Based on the comments I think cutting them out and finding some different
mufflers will be the direction to go. The tuned J...
Hi all,
Have a 66 Belvedere 273 V8 auto. Previous owner spent some money on a
nice full dual exhaust using Flowmasters ( unknown at this point which ones ).
Anyway, the droning sounds at what's basically everyday driving speeds is
very unpleasant to my ears.
Before I cut em off and redo the...
