All of the vacuum lines are connected to the actuators etc. If I put my thumb over the inlet that plugs into the vac switch, I get vacuum (see pic).

383 HP engine: does the oil dipstick tube have an o-ring seal where it fits into the block? The Chrysler parts manual shows the tube but not an o-ring.

There is no direct fit 518 for a big block. Small block, 3.9 v6, diesel/v10 only. If you want to use one of those, you'll need to lop off the bell housing portion and use a TransBell from JW Performance or a plate style adaptor. There will be fit complications to deal with as the od unit is...
