If you wanted to have good steering in the winter with bias ply tires, you put winter tires on all corners with studs. BFG Trailmakers, and Goodyear Suburbanites, didn’t grip as well in deep snow as Firestone Town and Country. We had 3 cars in the family at the same time, each brand.

Bought a 1992 4Runner, December 91. Wore out the factory tires and put on BFG`All Terrain tires. Bought another set later. Sold the 4Runner in 2012. It had 364,000 kilometres on it. Those tires were good for about 70,000 miles. I can’t complain, maybe just lucky.

If your springs are sagged, you most likely will have a problem. My friend added a leaf now it’s high enough that he can change tires easily.
