I know this isn't what you are asking, but I would cut a hole in the drum to get access to remove the 5 bearing retainer nuts, pull the axle with the drum attached, do what you have to do to get the drum off, and change it to slide on drums. A lot of work initially, but easy to do brake work...
If you have a '62 or '63 the axles are shorter with an open differential than with a Sure Grip because of the 1/8" wider thrust spacer used with the open. It's not what you are asking but is worth mentioning.
