FWIW I see Uniroyal and BFG throw belts in tires quicker than any other brand. Some are old and some are not. Now potholes will hurt any tire if the impact is large enough.
Most of our old cars are stored inside and they seem to not dry rot and crack as quick as a tire that is left outside.
275/60 r15 works well on the rear. Unless you are going for max handling I prefer something like a 235 70 15 on the front. 1 inch shorter for a little rake and still tall enough to fill the fenderwell. Plenty of rubber on the ground without dragging a wide front tire around. Easier to steer at...
On those 17x6 you get a higher speed rated tire on the front for better handling.can go 215/50r17 or 215/55r17. 6" is the minimum width for either of those tires. I have thought about those for the front of my duster with 15x8 on the rear.
17x7 will surely fit and 235/55r17 is a safe bet with proper backspacing.May fit an 8" on the rear with a larger tire but you will need to test fit or measure.
