You are going all out on that '68. It's going to be a new car when you finally get it on the road. Thanks for sharing all the good stuff. When are you going to have it ready to show us?
You can do it, just do everything that you can yourself. Do all the sanding and dissassembly, body work, before you take it to the painter, so they can final sand it and spray it. Buy all the paint yourself, and save the mark up (and the BS about "$5000 per gallon paint). Use all the original...
Welcome from NM. Nice looking '68. You have all the good stuff already, just needs "finished" up. I would seperate the positive battery cable from the rest of those wires and put them in some plastic wire wrap. Get rid of all those zip ties and get some plastic loop connectors and attach it to...
It sounds like you need an inner hood and a good welder. All that other stuff, I just call battle scars. They give the car personality... They can't see all those flaws when you go by at 80 mph!!
You better save that hood if you can. They are hard to find and expensive to ship. Fenders can be patched, if they aren't that bad. I like to keep them as original as possible.
Once you get that old starter out of there, replace it with a "mini". I like to stick with original stuff, but with the headers, the mini is the way to go, IMO. I did the same thing to mine with the paint. I started removing the top colors to get to the original layer, and the next thing that I...
When I took off the old hot rod wheels and put the stock wheels on mine, is when I really started to "finish" it. Great start, every little thing that you do will inspire the next thing...
Mine only has lefties on the left front. I had to buy 2 complete sets of lug nuts to get enough "righties" for 3 wheels, because the sets came with half lefty and half rightys. I have plenty of spares now.
Under the back seat, but it is for a different car, still an RT but a few numbers (64) off on the vin number, same production day though. One of those mistakes, that I have heard is common. They grabbed the wrong seat. I sure would like to have the one for my car. Maybe somebody wants to trade.
I think that is priceless!! I think we all would love to talk to some of the previous owners of our cars, (I know I would) just to know what the car had been through in its long life. Very cool find on the previous owner, and having the guts to give them a call!!
