I'm using a laptop and I don't have a smart phone to scroll on. If I hit that red X, it was inadvertent. I certainly didn't intend to click it, so sorry if I did.
Well, I've been doing it my way for about a year now. Nice to know somebody out there is making those hex rod tools, but I'm afraid I don't see how turning the pump that way does anything different from turning it with the starter. I'll be repainting the rocker covers soon, so I'll have a...
I squirt oil onto the cylinder walls via the sparkplug holes before turning the engine. Doesn't the oil pump take care of that when the engine is running?
'69 Charger 383 HP: Body has been under restoration since August 2022. Meanwhile, engine was rebuilt and returned to me in March 2023. Until it is reinstalled, engine rebuilder recommended periodically oiling the engine via the oil pump drive under the distributor using a drill motor. I was...
If I knew that my engine was supposed to have a pie tin I might be interested in buying one if available; however, if all 383 HP engines didn't have them and mine did not from new, I wouldn't. To my knowledge, a "Magnum" 383 was the 335 hp version, which I do have.
A question for the clutch experts. I'm replacing the clutch in my '69 Charger with 383 and 4-speed. I bought a Luk kit from Rock Auto. The kit came with a small tube of a thick dark gray grease and instructions say to apply it evenly to the splines. The only splines in the kit are in the hub...
Well, it's almost obvious that the two should go back together without additional alignment measures, but as I recall it isn't specifically stated in the manual. Thanks very much for the confirmation, Fran.
The bellhousing will go back on the engine and the gearbox to the bellhousing with the...
I am the original owner of a 1969 Charger with 383 HP and A833 tranny. The engine has been removed and sent to the machine shop for rebuild after 178,283 miles. The gearbox is also out.
I saw the note above in the Dodge workshop manual and mentioned it to the machinist who is rebuilding the...
Just following the instructions in the 1969 Charger shop manual to rotate the transmission to clear the body structure. I've never done this job before, and I don't want to be messing with stuff I don't have to remove.
Thanks very much, Daves69. I used a tranny jack to remove the transmission, but it was necessary to turn the tranny to clear the shifter rods. I think that's when the release bearing popped off. I'm anticipating (dreading, more accurately) that reinstalling the gearbox without popping it...
I removed the tranny to remove the engine for rebuild. I discovered that I had inadvertently dislodged the release bearing. Does the photo show the correct installation of the bearing on the fork? It seems easy to pop it off.
Thanks!
It's a year late, but here is my input on this issue: I am the original owner of my 1969 Charger with 383 HP engine. The distributor has never been out of the car. At 0 deg. TDC on the compression stroke, the rotor is pointing to 5 o'clock, which is the #1 spark plug terminal. I don't know...
