Could have been bad alt bearings that was squealing all along the more tension on bad bearing I would think would cause them to seize like you describe. You could loosen the belts and grab the alt pulley and see if it has any play in it moving the pulley up/down/left/right.
Sounds like you got a big air bubble in the system and it needs burped. Just let it run with cap off for a while....dont let it get too hot like 235ish until the coolant level drops. Run it at about 1500 to 2k rpms...or a fast idle.
Since its your mechanical gauge you are looking at and not...
Not to be different...LOL....but I bought an aluminum T-stat housing that I could never get to seal correctly with the aluminum pump...went back to the stock t-stat cast housing on the alum pump and not a problem since!
I will say this....it IS cheap Chinese crap....but it DOES work fine. Only thing I would caution you about these radiators is wracking/twisting. If you order one....when you receive it immediately check for wracking in it. Lay it flat and see how much twist is in it. Any more than 1/2"-3/4" of...
My 383 is far from stock as well. 496 stroker 555hp/622ft lbs. I have never had an issue with mine. The stock 22" rad on the other hand...couldn't keep this thing cool.

2- When you get the rad....1st thing you need to do is take it out of...
I'll see if I can get you some pics tomorrow. I will tell you that on mine... The drivers side mount holes lined up with no issue and the 727 cooling line hook-ups where spot on where they should be. I had to drill a couple of holes on the passenger side since those didn't line up right.
I have a Champion and am very happy with it. I have a 4 core 26" in my rr. But I didn't bother with the electric fan and shroud. Just use the standard 7 blade and it runs as cool as the other side of the pillow.
