I did a writeup over on the Roadrunner nest website when I did my 1971 Runner.
Startin to work on the Clone Runner (it's PAINTED!) - Page 16 - Road Runner Nest
Start at the bottom of page 16.
I've since brought the rest of the project on this website as well - see the members project section.
Road Grabber - I put the filter there as it is easy accessible as well as catching anything before it hits the fuel pump.
Filters like that shouldn't have any restriction in fuel flow.
I too am in agreement with adding frame connectors and torque boxes.
Here is my 71 with them.
The frame connectors were added with the car sitting on its tires.

I bought mine from the Stinger fiberglass company - I'm not using any under hood components.
I fabbed it to stay open.
Tazz - there is a cowl to hood seal just in front of the cowl to stop any under hood heat from going into the cowl and into the interior of he car.
If yours is missing then put one on.
Otherwise if its hot outside - that same outside air goes into the interior.
I don't know if there is any R value as I haven't finished the car yet.
It should have more R value than the original yellow insulation used by the factory.
An interesting tidbit - with my headliner material being perforated the silver comes thru and it looks like little stars against the black...
