If you're running RTR, what you need to do depends on which coil and where it needs constant 12v. Assuming you have a could that does need 12v, take out the ballast and make a piece of wire that connects the 2 female connectors that were on the ballast.
I just had to troubleshoot this with mine a little while ago. The bulkhead connector wasn't fully seated and prevented the coil from getting 12v at crank, just like your having now.
I tested it by removing the center bulkhead connector and putting my test lead on the Q conductor and making...
I just upgraded to a powermaster unit and have an original style one I'd sell. It's a rebuilt distributor that only has around 1000 miles on it. It was working perfectly when removed but wasn't keeping up with the electric fans I installed. PM me if you are interested.
