Pretty sure you have to install it in the body first and then install the cable. I don't think in goes in if it is on the cable. My memory is not as clear as it used to be, so I will let others chime in.

I see blue/pink and brown/yellow. Can you share the part number associated with each set of colors along with the date codes from the leaf springs and your SPD? We OE junkies want to know the details....

This is what I have. It should point you in the right direction.
Left rear spring, 6 leaf, part number 2539795
Right rear spring, 5 + 2 – 1/2 leaf, part number 2539965

I have never seen a date code on brake shoes. Original finish, pentastar, and construction are the only way I know to identify period correct shoes.
