    Brake opinions / guidance requested!

Are the drums and hubs still one unit or are the drums free?

That 5/8 went right over the stud threads? I tried a 5/8 with teeth and no go over the threads.

    1964 Fury Wrong Brake Shoes

Well I got these on and the brakes work much better - good pedal, zero pull, no self actuation. The contact pad on the shoe plate at the TOP (1:00) in my picture above is still not a perfect match for the backing plate - it needs to be 1/2 farther toward top but it contacts enough to work...

    1964 Fury Wrong Brake Shoes

I had added this at the bottom of a sticky post but thought maybe it was important enough for a new post. I had been struggling with the 10x2.5 front brakes on the 1964 Sport Fury getting grabby and hot. On stands they self actuate rolling forward. This was all after installing Bosch BS169R...

    Drum Brakes Grabbing - SOLVED!

OK I'll leave this here so folks can see at least one example of a shoe that fits and one that does not. Look at the primary shoe on the left. It is a bosch BS169R. The primary lining is biased way down low and the little crinkle pads on the sides (I hit them with a white marker) DO NOT LINE...

    unswedge me

I bought the 5/16 hole saw that others have mentioned. It does NOT fit over the 1/2" stud and I deformed the threads on one stud and had to clean them up with a die. No big deal - I will try the 11/16. I'm just trying to get set up for eventually needing to remove the drums from the hub when...

Help! Brakes get tight and hot

Great advice. Just trying to make it work for now. Dual master and discs are definitely in the plan. The current master/hard tubes/hoses/wheel cylinders etc are all new.

Help! Brakes get tight and hot

Yep. I actually talked to a person at Rock auto and they say I am the first to complain about these Bosch shoes. Their online picture looks exactly like my shoes.

    Drum Brakes Grabbing - SOLVED!

Maybe we should eventually build a list of parts that work and do not work for this application. My brother is disabled and I maintain his car and this has been a nightmare. The BOSCH BS169 shoes DO NOT FIT CORRECTLY. The primary lining is short AND the shoe plates do not interface correctly...

    Drum Brakes Grabbing - SOLVED!

They were also wrong. My brother had the brakes done before this. I got into them to fix a hard pull in the other direction. I think I am on the right track to identify the right shoes and will post soon. There are two problems with some of these shoes. 1) the primary lining material is too...

    Drum Brakes Grabbing - SOLVED!

Well the plot thickens. Stopped by an old timey part store and looked at their old catalogs. The old catalogs show a #155 shoe for our 64 with 10" brakes. Later catalogs show a 169. SOME 169s appear to have the contact points in the right location and some do NOT. I WILL find a set of...

    Drum Brakes Grabbing - SOLVED!

Well I am still struggling with this puzzle a bit. I found some local shoes with the primary lining where it should be but now noticed that these new ones AND the crappy ones I just took off don't have tabs or little bent areas on the shoe plate that line up with the contact areas on the...

Help! Brakes get tight and hot

Thank you! That seems to be exactly what is going on and my new shoes have very short and non centered primary linings. Contact points for backing plate are mis located. Brakes self activate rolling forward. Will try new shoes tomorrow.

    Drum Brakes Grabbing - SOLVED!

I am struggling with the same problem. NEW Bosch riveted shoes. Very short non centered lining on primary. The areas on the shoe plate that should contact the pads on backing plate are in wrong locations. The brake activates when rolling tire forward and releases when rolling tire backwards...

Help! Brakes get tight and hot

I should have paid more attention when you said that the first time. The places wheret he shoe plate should contact the backing plate are in the wrong locations as well. These are the right Bosch shoes for this application but they seem the crap. Will try different shoes tomorrow. When I...

Help! Brakes get tight and hot

Something is goofy with these. Now that I am looking closely at them the primary shoe lining is short and the places where the shoe should contact the pads on the backing plate are not in the right spots. They are the right part number.
