So after a bunch of cutting and grinding I have the engine in its home. The brackets needed some removed but the factory brackets probably would have worked after cleaning up my buddie’s birdshit welds on the K frame.
Thanks again for all the suggestions, I really appreciate them.
I think you’re on to something. Pulled engine back out and found this.
I’ll remove that corner and try again. This is what I LOVE about this place, you guys are awesome!
This is my’69 Coronet, I have had both sides in one at a time but can’t get them both together. I had a friend weld a skid plate on the K frame and he added some beads where it looked like it could use some. I just ground some off around the front side of the driver’s side, waiting for some...
I’m installing my engine and I’m having problems with bolt alignment. New 440 Source mounts and brackets. I had the same problem last summer when I tried installing it with factory original brackets and the junk mounts from Summit, I believe they were Anchor brand but had the same issue with the...
I found the specs for Eagle rods seem to be in line for what I have, I wish 440 Source would make it easier to find specs on their site. Thanks for the replies!
First of all, the bolts that come with 440 Source "factory replacement" connecting rods, as noted in my original question. Second, I would love to call 440 Source if anyone was there on the weekend. Asking if anybody knows what the spec is, not who I should call. And, the bolts are 7/16-20, fwiw.
I seem to have misplaced the instructions that came with a set of connecting rods. Does anybody know what the torque spec is for the cap bolts? I would imagine they would be the same as the H-beam rods also.
After loosening the #3 cap and smacking the crank back and forth, then torquing #3 I gained 0.001, so only a touch over .005. I think I'm moving on, thanks for all the replies, truly appreciate the help around here!
Didn't think about bearing half alignment, I'll loosen up the cap and see if I can get any more. As far as the build, it should do a little better than stock but less than 600 HP.
After removing and cleaning everything, I put the uppers bearings and crankshaft in it, installed #3 main cap and torqued it to 110 lb/ft (ARP studs), thrust measures at 0.004. Will that work with an auto trans? FSM calls for .002-.007 with .010 being max tolerance. I'm inclined to lube it up...
I'm assembling a 440 and after installing and torquing the main caps I have practically 0 thrust when measuring at crank snout. I used Driven assembly lube on journals and bearings with oil on backside of the bearings and the main saddles and caps, could this cause tighter measurements? Should I...
