Wish that was the case for me. I added a ground wire directly from the sending unit to a crossmember (even ground off to clean metal)... still same results.

Hmmmmn, I guess I should be happy! Mine goes to 3/4 when the tank is filled! I have a new gauge, new sending unit (2nd time), new tank and new circuit board! I have just learned to live with it.... it's much easier! It's consistent so I don't worry about it or let it bother me anymore.... more...
