I’m with you. Hood springs do not seem be the best choice for paint matching. Sun and heat can slowly change the original shade. They are out of the Sun but in some heat from the engine.
why not use the door jamb?
There should be nubs that line up with and protrude thru the holes on the frame. You then would peen them over to secure it. It is possible that the nubs have been used in the past though. In that case , maybe someone here knows of a strong adhesive to use. Panel adhesive doesn’t sound like...

It should come off very easily. Protect the paint with masking tape all the way around it and lightly score around it with an exacto knife to ensure you don’t remove paint with it.
get behind it with a small pry tool and pop it off.
