When we are out cruising we attach mud flaps using small binder clips available at the office supply store. This helps prevent paint chips. If we take the cars to a show, the mud flaps can easily be removed.
The original paint markings on my '68 3.23 SureGrip were a little different than your '69. Looking at the lower of the 2 pictures, mine was painted orange near the large flange (like yours) but painted with a white stripe along the bottom (in the area where yours is yellow).
Here's a picture of the rear end of our restored '68 Coronet. It's painted the same way as the '70 Road Runner rear end that I purchased a few years ago.
