My opinion, don’t do it. I did it on my 318 Coronet. Quickly you learn the fuel delivery system needs its own engineering and costs much as the EFI unit. If your carb is tuned correctly there is no MPG gain. Auto learn is a marketing gimmick. This only applies to steady state constant throttle...
For what you are doing the stock cam is fine. You won’t see much difference. For torque you want short LSA with those small valves and short duration with little overlap which the stock cam basically is. Crank up the compression and better heads then things will change a little.
Been there with 2 318s with tall gears. One stock one with Toth Aluminum heads, torque cam, Performer and 4 barrel. Neither are stellar off the line with 2.94 gears. The later once spun up keeps pulling long after the first goes flat at 4000 RPM. Bottom line in my opinion the only way for a...
The Wiseco we put in the daughters Duster came in at about 9.2 without decking the block so they are similar. The KB have a compression height of 1.81" and the Wiseco 1.80" with the factory later 318 are 1.741" so the Wiseco are 0.010" further down in the hole than the KBs...
the piston deck height changed was the main reason. My original 68 318 the pistons were less than 0.030 in the hole and stock piston you can buy today is more like the post 70 318’s, more like 0.080 or greater in the hole.
I admire a car more if it has been left the way it came from the factory. Regardless of the options. I love my 318 in the Coronet. Does everything I have ever wanted to do with it.
So my 2 cents after building my 2 318's wanting the same thing.
1) Wiseco Pistons to get you in the 9:1-9.5:1 range. 1970 they dropped the compression on the 318 from the 9:2 to low 8's from the first 2 years of LA production.
2) Pick to right cam, which now that I know more the 318 is small...
Can you define what "more power" means in your mind? Day to day driving when you punch it you get more kick to pass a car or to feel more pulling way from a red light or when you are reving it and you want it to not fall on its face over 3500RPM? Answers will be different. My Coronet has the...
Agree, I could not image a 4.10 gear like I had in my Satellite in central NY in the SW deserts! There are times the 2.93 seems to low after driving hours at 75-80! Especially when I have to fill the gas tank!
Love the Toth heads and similar setup (minus headers) on my daughters Duster 318. The heads make a huge difference along with Wiseco pistons at 9.5:1 vs the 7.8:1 my Coronet has with Sealed Power.
Thanks Mark, the one I have I would have swore would have not leaked after I got done with it. It had once tiny pit in it but I guess that it lined up exactly with the seal lip..... I'll let you know.
Yea this is for my daughters Duster but would like some other opinions. We put a 318/904/8.75" rear axle in it. After a lot of research I found the correct part number for the driveshaft for this combination in 1972 is 2996157 which was 48.89" long. I have a driveshaft that is 48" long. If I...
