Well I finally got it back together. Comp Cams sent me mis-packaged rockers twice. Right side rocker package and part number with a left side rocker inside! Then the right side were backordered. I used the Manton adjusters, they were great to deal with. So far, no problems.
New adjusters are on the way from Manton. Nice people to deal with. The cost of those things are steep, so I'm hoping for the best. I'm going to replace all 16. I'll post an update when I get it done. Thanks everyone for the advice.
I contacted Blue Print Engines when the first 2 broke, as the engine was still under warranty. They sent me replacement rockers. They said they had never had this problem before. They were pretty helpful, however they no longer produce this engine. I contacted Comp Cams and they were not much...
Yes, I thought the broken end of the adjuster looked very "grainy" to me also. When the last one snapped off as I was removing it, It felt brittle and just "snapped", not like a long twisting feeling. And I only had one hand on it. I'm thinking I have a bad batch of adjusters.
Thanks everyone for the help. I have reached out to Manton for some help. I'm going to try and replace all the adjusters with better quality parts and see if that solves it. It seems to be the opinion of the group that this is where the problem lies. I will update this thread after I have made...
Thanks for the advice. What you are saying makes perfect sense. The engine is a crate motor from Blue Print Engines (493 cid). They no longer make this motor. The cam and valve train is all Comp Cams so I assume using a set like this, including push rod length, would be correct. One question...
This sounds like it could be my problem. In one of the first pics, where the nut is gone but the adjuster bolt remained in the arm, I put a hex wrench in it to loosen it and it snapped off with very little force. I was very surprised it snapped so easy, with just one hand. Thanks for the help.
The first time I had a problem, the adjustment bolts snapped off flush with the rocker arm. I found them both with the lock nuts still on them. I had not touched them until I heard a "tick" and pulled a valve cover to investigate. This time the lock nut backed off, allowing the bolt to back off...
Looking for some advice/help- I have a 1968 Charger with a Blue Print engines 440 (493) crate engine. The only problem I've had with the motor is the rocker arms. They are Comp Cams 1.5 ratio rollers. Twice the adjusting screws have snapped off. and now I had one lose the lock nut, creating the...
