I’ve never took the time to grease the rod just took the wires off the alternator and the adjuster bolt out, rolled the alternator up, used my finger to hold the rod up and put the pump in
Quick and easy job
Guess I could take longer now that I’m retired
I would use a flat blade screwdriver or small chisel and tap the edges open until the keeper falls out , don't hit the keeper looks like its nylon, put a rag or towel down so your ball doesn't roll away
I got tired of adjusting the choke , we have suck temperature changes here that every month you have to move the choke setting, so I put a manual choke on, I pump the gas once while setting the choke , crank for 5 seconds then pump twice crank again and she fires right up , feather the choke off...

Is the pipe on the base late for pvc or a water drain
I’ve seen them hooked up as both
The pvc is either to the carb or inside the filter area isn’t it
And I’ve seen them hooked to the oil breather too
