I have a 70 383 block that has no VIN or ID numbers I got it from a guy that bought 71 4x4 truck that told me it got an engine replacement during warranty I have it earmarked for 12.5’s on alcohol for a gasser but got to thinking it might be worth stupid money for someone trying to restore...

Sorry about the gap in response I’ve been busy I miss spoke , I meant the retainer not the main cap Like someone else was pointing out The retainer can bind on the bolts and cause leaks

The rope seal is not the leak your cap is binding when tightening, it happens a lot Take the seals out and find where the cap is hitting

looks like your throwout will go back about 3/8 of an inch once your fork is all the way in

your carb is running more fuel on one side, if you look at your intake you see one side feeds the 2 inner on one side and the 2 outer on the other

edelbrock 800 will bolt right on and pull what your engine needs with no hassle , holly is great but can be confusing and time consuming if you dont know how to tune them unless you want to pay somebody $500 bucks or more to do it for you, JMO
