Ways to increase access to spark plugs.

Have you made sure no part of the plug wires are touching any part of the exhaust? I had an issue a while back with a plug wire popping off. It turned out to be the wire was barely touching the header pipe causing the wire to heat up and allow the wire to pop off the spark plug. It took me a...

    6 pack surging

Could be many issues. Did it just recently start? Happen all the time? Certain RPMs? Does it feel like losing power, then gaining back or gaining power then going back to normal? I think I would start with basics - vacuum leaks, fuel.

What's the first car that you drove over 100 mph?

My first car in 1997. I had a 79 chevette. Exceeded the high pitched scream of high RPMs to having this odd, low roar/growl. Thought the motor was going to fly apart. I was leading and that's all that mattered back then. Lol If my friend wouldn't have been with me, nobody would have believed...

Rant: Auto parts store employees can really be useless sometimes

When I need something odd or cross referenced, I go to napa. They still have books when the computer is no help. The guys there aren't kids and actually have older cars. They know the struggles. First time I went this local napa when I moved here, getting something for the roadrunner. Was...

Need to dial back my 440 to make it more street-able

Been a long time since mines been out of the garage, but I believe it was 3k or so RPMs around 50-55. 440, .030 over, 509 purple shaft cam, six barrel setup, 3.91 rear, 727 manual shift, converter is TCI 3000. It doesn't like highway cruising. It did ok on the street if you kept your foot off...

Speaker suggestions for a decent sound system

Here's my opinion: Ditch the 4" in the kicks. Replace with 6.5"(recommended) or 5.25" 3-ways or components. I would recommend Rockford Fosgate. They have good bass and come across a little "boomy". This will help because of their location. The 6x9s should be fine. Add boxes under those if...

    Letting a car sit

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't think it was too much of an issue with the car sitting the way it has. I did get it out a little bit this year, but mainly short test drives less than 5 miles. Thanks again for the help.

    Letting a car sit

Is it hurtful to a car (engine, transmission, other moving components) to let it sit for periods of time? For example, things have not gone as planned the past two years and the roadrunner has had to sit month's at a time. Money, other vehicle issues, and life has gotten in the way. This has...

Crappy stereo sound: 1970 Charger with Kenwood

Yes. Needs to be a sealed box. Just like a sub box.

Crappy stereo sound: 1970 Charger with Kenwood

Your homemade boxes would be sufficient depending on size as long as they are sealed. Liquid nails works great for the inside. About .25 cubic feet per speaker is all that's needed. (Too much bigger will give similar results as not having a box.) Pack them full of poly-fill. And make sure they...

Crappy stereo sound: 1970 Charger with Kenwood

Here's something I actually know about. Lol. Car audio is more about installation and setup than money. Yes, more expensive components will always sound better, but cheaper stuff can sound great too if done properly. The easiest solution is to get an amp. But, it is NOT necessary. 6x9s in...

    overcharging? overheating

I think the issue is with the fans being on when they aren't needed. I don't think you'd need the fans on at highway speeds, especially when you say there was no issue. Maybe run a toggle or pick up a fan controller, or a relay or two. Hopefully, somebody with more electrical knowledge will...

    overcharging? overheating

Did you install a fan controller for the fans? If the fans aren't set up right, they can act as a generator putting current BACK into your electrical system. I was using an electric fan for a while. I had to install a diode to ground out the over current from the fan.

    Sound insulator

Peel n seal. Or something like that. Used it for car audio installations on large builds. A lot cheaper than dinomat. Does about the same thing.

    radio speakers

If you don't have anybody riding in the back seat, you could get some nice 6x9's and 6x9 boxes and place them on the floorboard between the front and rear seats. Speakers faced up. The under seat speakers don't sound great because of the placement. I'm not a huge fan of those. Or, you could get...
