Are there any high quality thermostats?

I decided on the EMP Stewart 180°. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/emp-305

Are there any high quality thermostats?

Doing a coolant flush on the Hemi. Pulled out a 160 stat. My guess is it is 15 years old. It has USA stamped on it. I am thinking about putting it right back in. I always used Stant Stats with no issues. I have read that they are now Motorad, and junk.

Does anyone make a good heater control valve

The Everco H2994 heater valve arrived. It does a 100% shut off when tested with air. It is made for 75 and later, so I expected issues. It has a slightly different mounting bolt pattern which is no big deal, but the biggie, it operates *** backwards from the 71 to 74 valve. I am going to plumb...

Does anyone make a good heater control valve

I found this on Ebay and bought it. Listed for 75 to 78, simple on off valve with no bypass. https://www.ebay.com/vod/FetchOrderDetails?itemid=182903716646&transid=2216582288008&ul_noapp=true

Does anyone make a good heater control valve

This is the problem. We use A/C here 7 months of the year. The A/C is converted to 134, it blows so cold you need to add a little heat to moderate the cold air coming out of the vents. Not all the time, but some times.

Does anyone make a good heater control valve

I purchased a Four Seasons heater valve #74643 from Summit racing. Installed it to find that it does not completely stop hot water flow to the heater core. Sent it back, they sent another, and it is the same. In Phoenix we do not need a lot of heat output from the cars heater. These heater...

    HVAC vacuum check valve

My 73 has a vacuum check valve in the vacuum line from the engine to the HVAC controller. The check valve is not working. It allows flow in both directions now. The air box was just rebuilt, doors all function properly and quickly. When engine vacuum drops I can hear the air box doors start to...

    Using the best coolant?

Something made it turn to goo and clog up the works.

Running hot after Sniper EFI install

You are not wrong on that. If the EFI is controlling timing the dist needs to be locked out and let the EFI map out timing advance. The EFI does not have to control timing, in that case the dist must retain full mech and vac function. OP, if you do not have the skills to tune the engine...

    Using the best coolant?

Dexcool got a bad rap, gelling up and clogging the works. I remember reading that it must be kept away from oxygen, GM used a closed cooling system from the factory. Is all that true or not? I dont know. I would be cautious using Dexcool in an old car. The system is not sealed. Next time I am...

    Using the best coolant?

Now what about adding aluminum to the mix? Back when green coolant was the norm the manufacturers were not using aluminum radiators, heads, water pump hardware, intakes. They switched coolants when aluminum was used from the factory.

Which is a better water pump?

    This one? Or this one?

    Using the best coolant?

The small block in the 72 is effected by AC use. That is my experience. Engine temp goes up 20° or more with AC on in hottest part of summer.

    Using the best coolant?

So what I ended up doing, I used 1 gallon of Prestone concentrate all vehicle green stuff with 3 gallons of distilled water. That is a 25% mix. I am in Phoenix and really dont need freeze protection. I am still thinking about corrosion protection and lubrication, is 25% coolant enough? The 383...

    Using the best coolant?

I went to Walmart to get some distilled water and coolant, 1 stop shopping. (picked up some ammo too while there) All they had was "all makes and models" coolant, and some GM Dexcool. Nothing that said OAT or HOAT.

    Using the best coolant?

Not the brand but the type. Our old cars used Ethylene Glycol. There are much better coolants to use today. Watch this video. He is usually correct about most things. I am thinking of switching over to the HOAT coolant. I just did a complete (Hillbilly) super flush of the system. I am good to...

    Hillbilly coolant flush

Well, the radiator is not correct for the car. Should have a 28" with in/out on the right, it is a 26" with inlet on the left. Heat is not hooked up yet. Going to rebuild the HVAC box when I do the interior. Water pump is new. Today I am going to pull the coolant drain plugs on the block, get...

Stock 318 runs 30 degrees hotter with AC on- is this normal?

Fighting a hot running engine when the AC is on might seem like a loosing battle. But it's not. There are many things that contribute to over heating. Making sure the cooling system is correct for an AC equipped car is first. Clean radiator, correct fan and clutch if equipped. Fan in correct...

    Hillbilly coolant flush

I did not. It is all fresh and I didnt want to mess with it. Just waited for it to open.
