Steering Wheel Restoration - DIY Project

That’s a nifty mission. I sometimes think of the kids running the streets who never had any mentorship to friggin learn something other than steal stuff. Years ago, was contracted by a city running an at-risk youth program to conduct training. Was nice to see these kids learning skills, using...

Steering Wheel Restoration - DIY Project

Maybe you have some proprietary secrets, if not, be nice to hear your wheel resto method. Seeing what members and others have done it sure takes a lot of patience to perfection.

Steering Wheel Restoration - DIY Project

Fantastic work! Yeah, making those trim parts are not for the faint-hearted. Have a couple of ma Mopar rectangular steering wheels when they were out for a brief span. One is very rough; but the other is in pretty nice condition I want to restore someday. I’d like to see how it will fit and look...

    Needle color

You will probably find it there, think I bought the paint at Hobby-Lobby; lots of nifty stuff for detailing work.

    Needle color

I used this. Has brush applicator. Reduce the caffeine and do a rehearsal on application to get a feel for smooth consistent application before doing the needles. MO

    Interior paint information

Wouldn't be the first time or the 10,000th. Having been in many processing plants on the job, wasn't unusual to see the same product being filled into containers - only the labels were different.

SEM could be great, just that I haven't used it, used Herb's and happy with the results.

Best fitting carpet for 63 Fury with 4 speed

ACC is where I bought the last two carpets for my ’63 and some trimming is necessary. I used heavy weights to obtain better forming around the hump and let that set for a few days. I’ve also dampened the carpet and used a hairdryer while under weight, that helped and kept the weights on it while...

If I follow, you posted for sale on here and it was removed as you didn’t post a price? Site rules about selling stuff requires it. No auctions. On fleabay you can post as an auction (suggest a reserve unless your bottom price is your starting bid) or a buy-it-now at your desired cost. Either...

    How much carpet under sill?

The aftermarket lace/seal I got was ridiculously larger dia than the OEM. At the time was told there was only one outfit making it so gave up putting the old one back in. Someone mentioned that the later seals would fit. I planned to get them but haven't done this yet. Was suggested that...

    How much carpet under sill?

Could be different design involved, later year? At least as it is on my car (63) the wind lace inserts over the pinch weld running under the hump on the sill plate. The sill plate screwed down holds the carpet. Not much clearance either, as when I installed new lace, it was larger diameter...

    How much carpet under sill?

Gluing shouldn’t be necessary, the sill plate screws will hold it down. Mine comes up to the weather lace running under the plate. I had put the lace in to make the cut line as it overlaps a bit. Be sure to have the carpet seated in fully with the contours, I used some weights. You may want to...

    Sound deadening advice

Material I used, Dynamat, as others I checked into, have a heavy wax-like coated backing that is peeled away as it is laid in place. The adhesive is a tar-like substance. Set it nice and square at the start as once the stuff is stuck down, there’s no 2nd strike, at least with the stuff I used. I...

    Sound deadening advice

I went with Dynamat, a bit pricier, but maybe 20 bucks over some of the other materials. Think I paid about $150 for a one-box quantity. This was about 6-7 years ago. Some left over material I put in the inside fender areas. Also used HVAC adhesive insulation on the doors. I had some...

    Interior mold

Never heard of armorall cracking a dash, used it for eons. Can’t see whay that would cause cracking. Some areas you shouldn’t use it due to slippery residue, like vinyl seats and the steering wheel, also good for rubber seals. If you store the car in a humid area, I’ve used drying materials like...

Hope it will work nicely, if you can test using a mule surface first I'd give that a try.

    Interior panels touch up

I’ve used Herb’s interior paints to my liking. Not familiar with the brand you show. Just MO, but painting I’ve done has always had an area that creates a start and end, such as trim or profile. Spot touchups w/o I haven’t tried thinking about the possible matching hassles. I’ve found that...

    Replacing Speed Nuts

Yeah - friggin PAL nuts, don't like 'em. I've used nylon push nuts, fabbing some when I couldn't find the right size. Also a few areas using small rubber nipples. After enough hassles with every pal I have not securing (have a lot of them) these have worked nicely for me.

    Retrosound Center Dash Speaker Install

Dealing with my dash speaker years ago thought how nice it would have been to have 4 nice screws on the exterior of the grille. Those screws wouldn't have offended me at all. At my age now, hope the speaker lasts longer than I will.

    Console light lenses

Had fun with all sorts of re-pop parts not assembling nicely. In a few cases when it didn’t fit at all, thinking of the wind lace I ordered. Here’s a couple examples: I'd probably open the holes up or try to gently deburr the pins if the plastic is pliable. Joys of auto-resto.
