Oil and filter quality and brands

https://mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us/pvl/files/pdfs/mobil-1-oil-product-specs-guide-2016.pdf great guide from Mobil 1 listing the zinc and phos levels in all their oils as of Feb 2016. The FS Porsche oils are interesting. Looks like they recommend 15w50 sn for flat tappet applications. The high...

Oil and filter quality and brands

the only way to know for sure is to use an analytical lab. the popular 3rd party testing lab is blackstone for UOA (used oil analysis) but there are others. http://bobistheoilguy.com/used-oil-analysis-2/ It's not that expensive to do as they use pretty old equipment and are geared to our...

Oil and filter quality and brands

lewtot is spot on. I used to be a big user of the 15w-40 rotella T diesel (white bottle). I used it in everything from an old gen I small block chevy that wheezed above 4000rpm to a kawasaki zx-10R that had 170 horsepower and redlined at 12.5k rpm. on the bike I changed every 1000miles. I...

Oil and filter quality and brands

All motor oils have ZDDP, just the newer specifications call for less. There are no hard and fast rules here or magic limits as no one is doing the appropriate testing to see exactly how much is needed for an old engine. I have been using 1200ppm zddp oil (0.12%) on my 71 383 HP with flat...

Oil and filter quality and brands

as far as zddp goes, not all rotella is the same. The synthetic blends (blue bottles) are very low in zddp to meet the new standards. Zddp is a catalyst poison (ruins the palladium/platinum catalyst in the converter) so it is around 800 ppm or lower in new formulations. Still high in the 15w40...

should I buy? 71 coronet wagon

As a Fort Worth native that picture looks a lot like CTC auto ranch! Love that place. 71-72 Coronets are my favorite mopar 4 door, and they are not that easy to find. But parts all interchange.

5/16th stock fuel pump to Edelbrock 1406

Try this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-8126/overview/ These make for a nice clean install on the edelbrock carb using the banjo fitting at the 3/8" outlet and 90" stainless tubing. You can swap the 3/8" hose barb at the end with 5/16" or bush down to 5/16 using a pressure...

should I patch or replace the sheet metal - 72 Roadrunner

The pictures aren't very clear but I don't see much issue. Some surface rust on the quarter. The door has a dent, that can be fixed. Is the rocker panel rusted through? That is best done with a patch panel. Use a strong magnet and check for bad bondo repairs or rust. If the paint is bubbling...

    milodon craziness

I agree don't go by the sticker. If this is the 7qt for a B/RB like the 30930, the flat side of the underside of the pan should be towards the rear of the motor and the curved portion should be on the front.
