I have not done a swap. I'm familiar with the 8hp because I have one in my Grand Cherokee, that's all. Another option for shifter would be the later (2016 and later) grand Cherokee shifter, that actually moves to a gate like the old school shifters and doesn't bounce back to a center position...
1. The stock shifter won't work, the 8HP uses an E-shifter module, not a cable connected to the shifter at one end and the trans at the other. It's like throttle-by-wire, but for the transmission.
2. I'd get a spare lens for the console, black it out, and get a decal made for your car's model...
This is a great thread - my '72 Satellite wagon has been sitting next to a complete '05 Magnum R/T 5.7 drivetrain (engine and trans) for years, waiting for me to get off my *** and start the swap. Car is currently a 360/727/8.75. I'll definitely bookmark this thread, great stuff!
I was going to say that's a big factor for your application - ability to tune for, and work with, boost. Some setups do; some don't. That would be question #1 for me but it looks like you got your answer there :)
Excellent thread, this is nearly exactly what I have to do to my '72 Satellite wagon (originally 318/904/8.75, currently 360/727/8.75). Donor 05 Magnum R/T, 5.7 Hemi with trans, have donor car (complete) so I have computers, pedal, sensors, etc. This will hopefully help me find some direction...
I think you could have a good market as well, for the "kits" as opposed to whole engines, for people like me. I have a 2005 5.7 Hemi that came out of my (purchased new, totaled in an accident) 2005 Magnum R/T. It's a complete 36k mile engine, and I want to drop it in my Satellite wagon...but I...
One of my "projects" (i.e. "I'll get to it....maybe...someday") is putting a 2005 5.7 into my '72 Satellite wagon.
I had a 2005 Magnum R/T (I like wagons...) that I bought new. 36k miles, it was T-boned and totaled. Ran and drove fine, but the passenger B-post was pushed 4" towards the center...
