Could you possibly replace the brass Tee, with a 4-way, and tap the FP gauge right up front ? May take some searching for it, but you may only need an adapter for gauge ?
The problem I have with my 383, stock intake, is the heat passage burns the paint off of it. Also, with the cheap ethanol gas, I seem to have more issues with vapor lock, or the gas evaporating so quickly, it re-starts very hard after running it on Hot Summer days. I was hoping this would help...

If you're not going for originality, why not use a newer Edelbrock, and matching carb ? It will probably wake your engine up some, seeing you are using headers also. We did that on our 340, using a Quick-Fuel carb, and couldn't be happier with it....
