Everything I have read and seen seems to indicate the vast majority of 5.7 lifter failures are related to #1 oiling issues with the MDS equipped systems and the little plunger that engages the MDS and allows for the lifter to purposely collapse #2 Fleet engines, primarily cop cars having...
I agree with Fran. Its hard to say what it will cost without knowing the condition of the block and what level of machining will be required. When I found out my cam on my 340 was shot I had to take it the short block to the machine shop and have it pulled apart, inspected, tanked and...
The over center spring is designed to help depress the clutch. With a diaphragm pressure plate that functionality is designed into the plate spring itself. If you don't remove the spring it can over actuate the throwout bearing and wont allow the pedal to come back up. That being said always...
Running the 75109 behind my 340 and have no complaints. Just remember if you go diaphragm style you need to remove the over center spring from the clutch pedal.
The other option is to go with the American Powertrain hydraulic throwout bearing and master cylinder. It took some minor custom fabrication but I love it. If you have older knees, they will thank you after a single session of sitting in traffic.
Is the clutch a borg and beck or diaphragm style? From what I have read if it has been converted to diaphragm style then the return spring is not needed and can cause issues.
The worst part of the job in my opinion is the factory rear shackle. if you are replacing the upper bushing while under there its a real pain getting them back into the frame.
Cdi boxes are really only beneficial above 6k rpm. I run one because thats what my engine came with otherwise i would have probably stuck with the factory electronic or done an hei swap to eleiminate the balast resistor.that being said i have had several high milage mopars and never had a...
They probably were rubber at one time, but rubber is 20% oil 30% carbon black 10% other chemicals (silica, sulfur, etc) and 40% synthetic or natural rubber. Overtime the heat of the engine cooks out all the oil out which effects the chemical bond with the other components and ultimately changes...
According to allpar Travco was the Chrysler inhouse conversion shop until 1979 when Chrysler shuttered the recreational division. That being said they also say that multiple companies offered campers for the D and W series trucks. You might start by finding a tag on the camper itself to...
I got my new springs, locks, and retainers in today and mocked one up on the head to check fitment. I noticed that the old valve locks fit the old and new retainers badly. They form almost an oval hole over the valve stem whereas the new ones fit perfectly. I think this is what caused the issue...
Update: Pulled and inspected pistons and all the pistons and bores are good and clean. Looks like most the damage was confined to the oil pump. Now for the reason behind the cam wipe. I noticed as I was pulling the old springs off of the driver side head that the spring associated with the...
I had 2350 in parts in my swap plus about 40 hrs labor to throw new seals and bearings in the unit, weld new hump, fabricate the hydraulic clutch set up and install the gearbox.
So far I have the pan off and have inspected the cylinder walls. Minor scoring in the #7 and #8 cylinders. All the others are clean. Removed the oil pump and disassembled it, seems like it took the majority of the damage. Major scoring in the oil pump cylinder and race. Ill get the heads off...
When installing the axles, wrap the spline with a sheet of printer paper as you slide it past the seal. Those splines are sharp and can cut up the seal.
