The cap I meant is the Road Runner picture -- it's a tabbed plastic circle with the decal actually sticky-sided up so that it sticks to the plastic. The steering wheel nut is under that plastic cap. I think this is the "cover" you asked about.
When I had my interior gutted for a pan replacement I laid down 1/2" heat shield insulation, 1/2" fiber padding over that, and then a new carpet. Then I could hear my radio over the Flowmasters for the first time. :grin:

I took some pics of my '72 a few weeks ago and the exposure was off in one of them, making it look like it had blacked-out windows... it would look pretty good that way!
70RR, there's a guy in Iowa who does amazing cluster restoration work. He'll give you a range of options from light touch-up to the full treatment (recalibration plus show-and-shine). I sent him a Rallye cluster last year and couldn't have been happier with the customer service and the result...
