That MSD tool is sure nice. I use this one that came with some MSD wires years ago but is available by itself. Works great with a razor knife and vise to strip the insulation and crimp the terminal. Under $10.

I see that it got bad reviews on Summit's...
Yes. Forgot to say that the kit has the plug ends installed and you cut each wire to length, using either the HEI terminals/boots or the standard terminal/boots. Both are supplied. Same for the coil wire. They offer these in straight, 90* or 135* (mine) plug boots depending on your header or...
Hey Bill,
I have used many sets of Taylor wires on several cars over the years. I like these for my RB big block. No spark leaks with headers and an MSD ignition.

Typically, the bucking problem at idle or low speeds is caused by a lean condition. You might try opening up your mixture screws a half turn or so and see if it improves...
Dieseling refers to an engine that 'runs on' after you turn the key off. I would just call it running rough or missing... Sounds like the carburetor needs to be completely disassembled and cleaned out with carb cleaner and air pressure put through every orifice and passage. Did the car sit for a...
Check out Summit Racing for Taylor Street Thunder wires. Very reasonably priced ($33.00-$59.00) and I've had as good luck with these as I've had with much more expensive Moroso, MSD, Accel, etc. You can buy premade or universal that you terminate yourself, and, in my opinion, give a much neater...
If, as you say, your wiring is all screwed up, drop the ignition switch out of the dash and see what color you have on IGN 1 and IGN 2. Follow the wires out to the engine compartment. They should end at your ballast resistor. At that point, tie them together with the MSD smaller RED wire. That's...
I have the same MSD and don't have a relay, nor do I see one in their installation manual. You can go to the the ignition switch side of the ballast to get your 12 volt switched source. Use both wires so you have 12 volts during cranking and running (ign. 1 and ign. 2).
Thanks. I used the MSD composite separators. 2 wire ones in the rear on both banks and 4 wire ones going toward the driver's side. 135* boots on the Taylor wires. Universal, cut to length.
By not eliminating the ballast it won't hurt anything. It only means that the ignition is not receiving a full 12 volts, unless, of course, the red MSD wire is connected to the ignition switch side of the ballast. MSD.com has wiring diagrams for installation and checking. The 'boomerang' thing...
About the ballast resistor: The MSD 6AL requires 12 volts to the coil, so you need to eliminate the ballast. Connect the two (or 3) wires that were on the ballast to the small RED wire from the MSD box. Good luck with your problem.
