Which timing are you referring? Idle/initial, mechanical advance, all in. Timing used to be higher at idle and then emissions came along and it was changed to much lower. The lower timing at idle causes the engine to run hotter, to help burn off harmful pollutants.
I fooled around w a bit of brazing in my past. That said, I'm lucky that less than 1/8th mile from my house is a hose shop. Had all my a/c n p/s n brake lines done there, very reasonable. Brazing works though if done properly obviously.
You initially replaced a wire n plugs. Have you verified since then which cylinders are dropping? A spay bottle on the header at each exhaust port or a digital temp gun. Verify if cylinders are running cooler. Is it the same ones each time?
I run a Walbro 225lph high pressure inline pump on my Turbo Jet boat. Engine is exposed, no cover. Same pump for over 10yrs. Before I start engine, while turning on pump, I can barely hear it. Obviously going to need a return line and regulator.
What yr 727 and valve body in it? Early pre '70 (don't quote me on dates) didn't have "PTK" (part throttle kickdown) only full throttle. Those w/out PTK also don't go down to 2nd from drive while going slow until a full stop or manually placed in 2nd. I have same issue and am ordering "PTK"...
You "might" get away w not using a shroud, but why? Why does everyone try to reinvent the wheel, think they are smarter than engineers? It is not hot in NC or AL, lived in both places. It's "hot" in AZ, my summers regularly hit 125°. Quit reading "Hotrod" magazine n thinking your car should...
I've got a direct drive 19" 11 blade reverse rotation fan on my '67 Coronet w 496" stroker n serpentine belt. Can't run a fan clutch due to space limitations and direction. In 125° summers, I cruise at 180° easy and idle after 10 minutes idling w a/c on at about 210° which is normal. Have...
1 Square per section of some sort of sound deadener, will help reduce any vibration noise. Then the silver lined a/c ductwork sheets to insulate. Both are very thin.
In post #5 you state they are hydraulic and not sure if rockers are adjustable. Hydraulic lifters, roller or flat tappet, do not need adjustment once initial "pre-load" has been set. Obviously you did not build nor set them originally. Is it "possible" for adjustable rockers to come out of...
Typically the only time I have oil around the filler cap/breather on the valve cover is when the PCV valve isn't working. Each one is designed for a specific engine characteristic. Modified engines change that. I ended up w one those expensive Wagner adjustable ones, but it works great.
Here's my 383 when I assembled it 3 yrs ago. Cam at 6 O'clock n crank at 12. I then put the intermediate shaft in and get the slot going front to back. Then set distributor in and wherever the rotor is pointing, I set as #1 plug wire on cap and install the rest of the wires accordingly. I've...
