First off I want to thank all of you who chimed in to help me with this dilemma. I appreciate it greatly.
Sleepar,
Thank you for your suggestion of filing the end of the output shaft. I decided this evening while looking at it that it couldn't hurt to try this. I found a fine, triangular...
File on what? The transmission output shaft or the slip yolk? Now keep in mind I have 3 different 727 slip yolks and none of them will go onto this transmission but slip fine onto my other 2.
As I have been told and have experienced, the key ways don't have to match any particular place in the splines. I confirmed this by installing slip yolk on other transmissions and trying different clockings, slips in wherever I put it.
Well I went out and looked over some things. First I counted the output shaft splinters and yep, there is 30. Then I went to measure the shaft. My mics had dead batteries but just put them on the shaft and then walked over to the other 2 727 trans. Same size. Ok so why are these slip yolks not...
Ok I feel pretty stupid here. I have a 1966 belvedere I am building. I removed the original non-poly 318 and 727. I built a 440 for it and bought a '78 Dodge 2wd pick up for cheap and it had many speed parts on it I am using. One of the parts that I am trying to use is the 727 that was in it. It...
Quite a few years ago I built a 340 and used cast manifolds. I cleaned them and prepped them real well and sprayed them with VHT Nu-Cast hi-temp paint (part #SP-997). The paint held up well for years and it was my daily driver. When I sold the car they still looked good.
Funny you brought up that intake. I actually have 1 for each of my motors. Guys have given me a hard time for searching for this maifold but it seems to perform incredibly well! Not to mention fit under the hood. I thought it worked with the air grabber set up too but couldn't remember.
Yes HT413 thats the process I was referring to but couldn't recall the name of it, thanks.
Yea I figured it was a bit pricey but figured if someone wanted to keep all the externals of the motor stock pieces it would be an option, maybe not the cheapest, but another option.
Very true, I bought my bare Edelbrock heads for my 383 build for the cost of some cast ones with mild work, and the assembled ones were only $1200 at the time, there's more $ than that into my 915's, but I just happen to find them in the hands of someone who didn't know what they were so bought...
Hunt2elk,
Wondering if you have looked into or considered doing a bit of porting and aggressive slurry pumping through the stock intake and exhaust manifolds? I saw an article on this a while back and they claimed it made quite a bit of difference, probably not to the extent of using headers...
Thats what my buddy did while porting his 360 heads for his racecar. He used JB weld & I toldhim it wouldn't work. Well that was my mistake, he ran it all season in a challenger turning low 11's, man he didn't let me live that down!
I saw a video recently on the different mufflers that flowmaster manufacturers now and to my suprise they seemed to have expanded and included a quieter muffler series. The ones I saw that I was interested in were a round or oval shape and looked like a shorter tube style glasspack. These seemed...
Not sure on how many 741 pinions have been broke. I've beat on mine pretty hard and even my buddy hammers on his in a low 10sec car, haven't had problems yet except bent axle tubes, lol.
The 1 I'm building is the same way. I bought a 55 thousand mile 1978 440 motorhome motor from a guy for $75.00. Had a piston & rod missing but all the cylinders were in beautiful shape. Also bought 1 other '77 440 motorhome motor with 40 thousand miles for $100 short block same way. Honed it...
By chance is there a certain year you are looking at? I thought I read on here somewhere when many of the different year blocks were checked the 1978 blocks were the best post 1971. Had something to do with nickel content and wall thickness of cylinders. Correct me if I'm wrong, just stuck in my...
This is probably the same route we will take. I have most the stuff in my shop now for it. He's thinking on using some '67 closed chambered (516) heads that are cut out with larger valves and rebuilt already and are just sittin on my shelf. The cam will be a mid size hydraulic cam for...
I'm helping a buddy that is interested in building a stroker motor. We are going to use a 400 block . Orignally the thought was to build a 451 but reading on some other options (like using the shorter 400 rods instead for a 431ci) we are having second thoughts. Looking for input from you guys on...
