I have a new Powermaster 95 amp alternator with a new solid state regulator. It charges, but is erratic from 13 to 15 volts constantly. Checked at the battery, starter relay, and stud on alternator. All the same. The field wire going to the VR is anywhere from .1 to 12 volts and all in between...
68 426 hemi with new Powermaster 95 amp alternator, set up just like stock one. New solid state voltage regulator. Bypassed ammeter. First start, it’s charging at 14.4 volts, but as it warms up to operating temp, it drops down to 12.9 volts, both readings at the battery. Was at 13.5 volts, then...
I put in a new Powermaster 95 amp alternator and was advised to replace my old electromechanical VR to a new solid state one. I did that, but first, checked my voltage at the battery with the old one. I got 14.6 volts while running. Replaced with the new VR and now get 12.9 volts at the battery...
Yes, Hyperspark distributor and ignition box. I have no idea about the timing curve. I haven’t had the car long, and the previous owner only put 30 miles on this setup (minus the EFI) in 31 years! I was hoping someone had a similar setup that I could snag some info from. I just don’t know where...
Thanks for everyone’s help in getting my Sniper wired up on my 426 hemi with 6-71 supercharger. Now, here’s where I spout some dumb questions. With this setup, what should I set as my initial timing, cruise timing and WOT timing? Digging out my timing light now. What about my AFR at 0 boost? How...
I just did this today! I bypassed the ballast resistor. Connected the single blue wire with the blue/brown wire with a jumper wire that has an empty terminal. Then I had a 12v switched wire that went to the coil. I went a step further by adding a Pertronix 2001 relay for a clean 12v switched...
Thank you! I bought a wiring diagram, but was still confused on which wire went where. That makes sense now. That gets me one step closer to seeing if I did everything correctly to fire up soon.
No problem. The ballast wires have a single blue wire on one side, and a combined blue and brown wire on the other. Do I combine all three, or just the blue wires? Thanks
It had a MSD 7al-2 that was wired straight from the battery on a toggle switch. Car wouldn’t start or shut off unless the toggle switch was on/off. It was all temporarily wired behind the passenger seat because of lack of room under the hood for that big ignition box. This was all done with the...
This is what was on the car when I bought it. What would be the correct way of grounding the engine? Should it go to the intake instead of valve cover? Thanks
Thanks Don. I have the Holley Hyperspark coil as well. Do you have a recommendation for a good solid state regulator? This is on a 68 GTX. I’m no wiring wizard, so it has to be easy to wire up. I upgraded to a 95 amp Powermaster alternator as well, so I need something compatible. Thanks
I am installing a Holley Sniper and it requires the 12v switched power during run and crank. It already had an MSD box and distributor so the ballast resistor was removed. I believe the wires are just hanging there. Do I just connect these wires together and add the pink wires from the...
Thanks. I will look into replacing my cap and rotor. I just sent my those wires back to Mancini’s due to they were not long enough. I had 3 wires that were not even close to fitting. No problem with returning them though.
