You really need to have a temp gauge on it so that you have some idea of the water temp. Also is it boiling over with the radiator cap on it? I have rebuilt a 383 and have a 22" 3 core radiator in it with a 180 t stat it wants to run around 195-200 degree.

I had to have my local radiator shop recore my original heater core. I was not able to find a replacemnet at a parts store or anywhere for that matter. Some parts catalog will show 65-70, but that is incorrect it will be 65 and back then 66- up.

I am thinking that the radiator is the problem and not circulating. They heater hoses are getting hot so the t-stat would have to be opening correct?

Yeah, I have not had it back out since I put it together , but yes to answer your question it is in correct. BTW no such thing as a silly question, sometimes things get over looked.

It has the factory fixed blade fan, original replacement A/C water pump with the factory cast iron water pump housing. Top and bottom hoses have springs in them to keep them from collapsing.

Yeah, That is what i was thinking as well. The only thing that is hard to understand is the fact I had ran it for about a year with the old engine and had no overheating issue. It just sort of happened all at once?

I have the radiator out , and I am taking it to the shop this morning. The lower hose is new and has a spring in it. The thermostat is a Brand new 180 degree, and not the cheap type. I checked it last night on the stove with a thermometer in water and it opens at around 175 degrees.
