    65 Coronet Heater Woes

Back when I had my 65 coronet wagon, I had to replace the heater core as well. That in itself is not an easy thing to do as they don't make those off the shelf that I knew of. As you know they have a two piece design with the inlet that has the heat control built on it has to go in once the box...

    440 get hot fast

You really need to have a temp gauge on it so that you have some idea of the water temp. Also is it boiling over with the radiator cap on it? I have rebuilt a 383 and have a 22" 3 core radiator in it with a 180 t stat it wants to run around 195-200 degree. Matt

    Heater Core ?

I had to have my local radiator shop recore my original heater core. I was not able to find a replacemnet at a parts store or anywhere for that matter. Some parts catalog will show 65-70, but that is incorrect it will be 65 and back then 66- up. Matt

top hose hot bottom hose cool ?

I am thinking that the radiator is the problem and not circulating. They heater hoses are getting hot so the t-stat would have to be opening correct? Matt

top hose hot bottom hose cool ?

Thanks for all of the replies, and some very good advice i might add. I don't think that 200 is super hot , but it is headed that way so I shut it down to keep that from happening. As for how the block was cleaned , I am not for sure as I bought the short block assembled without the cam and...

top hose hot bottom hose cool ?

It has the factory fixed blade fan, original replacement A/C water pump with the factory cast iron water pump housing. Top and bottom hoses have springs in them to keep them from collapsing. If it is an air lock, witch I thought of since I drained it down some a couple days ago to add a...

top hose hot bottom hose cool ?

On my 65 coronet wagon, I just rebuilt the 383 and got it all running. I have been doing some tuning on it, and drove it some , but on sunday i drove it around a few miles and it started to get warm so I brought it home. Since then I have ran it in the garage and noticed tonight that the top of...

    Leaky Thermostat Housing

I seem to always have some trouble getting the thermostat housing from leaking. Doesn't make any difference small block or big block seem to atleast have one small spot that will drip. I always use felpro gaskets with sealer, and wait 24 hours for it to dry before putting the anti freeze back...

    Overheating problem big block?

Well, I went over to the radiator shop to pick the radiator up again. He said that it was stoped up, and had to be rodded out. I also come to find out they did not rod it out the last time as they were supposed to, it just got flushed out. So i have the thermostat housing and water pump back...

    Overheating problem big block?

Yeah, That is what i was thinking as well. The only thing that is hard to understand is the fact I had ran it for about a year with the old engine and had no overheating issue. It just sort of happened all at once? Matt

    Overheating problem big block?

Do you think it had more to do with the flushing out of the radiator or the change to the Aluminium water pump and housing? Thanks, Matt

    Overheating problem big block?

I have the radiator out , and I am taking it to the shop this morning. The lower hose is new and has a spring in it. The thermostat is a Brand new 180 degree, and not the cheap type. I checked it last night on the stove with a thermometer in water and it opens at around 175 degrees. So far the...

    Overheating problem big block?

Alright I have a 65 coronet wagon. It originally had a 361 BB engine in it with 65,000 original miles when i bought it. I got it running with the original engine, did a tune up, valve job, head gaskets, hoses, belts, water pump, thermostat, cleaned the radiator and so on. Drove it around quite a...
