360's have a vin pad pass side above the pan. I have a lot of 360 truck motors, except Little Red, and I've never seen a vin number on a truck motor. My 73 W200 that my dad bought new has it's original 360 and no vin number.
Hard to tell in your pic but that kind of looks like a 440-6 balancer. Might be a part number on it. Here is a 6-pack balancer.
70-72 440 HP motors used the heavy 6-pack rods with a forged crank and are externally balanced.
Non-HP motors used the lighter rods and are internally balanced.
Both...
72 440 should have a forged crank. 440 went to cast in mid 73.
Does the flex plate have a label on it?
I'd pull the pan too.
Did you drive it and if so did it have any vibration?
I'm running two 742 and one 489 cases. I like the 742 as they also usually came with the clutch type S/G as where the 489 came with the cone type. They are interchangeable though.
