There is such a thing as "361 heads", that are not 383 heads.
I'm not sure why, but my 66 Coronet 500 came through with 383 heads, the forged crank and the 402 oil pan.
My local Mopar Guru says that this was not the norm. Perhaps it was part of a "performance package", or something...I'm...
The last year for the 361 (in a car) was 1966...Car & Driver Magazine call it a "boat anchor" and Chrysler countered with making a 383 2bbl, and ditching the 361 in cars forever.
Unfair, foresure , as the 361 has the same block & crank, 383 heads were often installed at the factory...The bore...
Maybe the NAPA guy doesn't know how to spell Charger.
Not much out there for "real" parts guys anymore.... I was told that Ford makes Chrysler, by one of the chain stores
Off the top of my head, I couldn't tell you what exactly the cam is. The speed shop that spec'd the cam, knew that a 4bbl was coming and I wanted something more aggressive...and they insisted setting the timing marks. I'm certain that this was done correctly, I successfully rebuilt motors as a...
The 361 block, is the same as a 383 block ( with the exception of the casting number).
The crank is the same too. The difference is the bore size :4.125" for a 361 and 4.25" for a 383....so we're talking about 22"Ci for a difference. Obviously it's a pretty dam important 22", but I don't think...
Thank you all.
I'm hardly a Pro at this, so I had a local "auto machine shop" handle the details...they have built drag cars for years. They did all the machine work and the owner actually allowed me to assemble the short block, staying late at his shop making sure that it was assembled it...
I have a 66 Coronet with a 361, it's the original engine. The engine was totally rebuilt and remains a true 361, as far as displacement goes.
Changes that I made along the way:
I put in a more aggressive cam
Installed a 4bbl Edelbrock 1406 on a original Mopar, year correct manifold
Dual...
I have two 66 Mopars, a Coronet 500 and a Barracuda. Both seem to have a similar issue, dash lights are dim. Perhaps my 2017 daily driver is just extra bright, but unless its dark outside ( I mean really dark) you would barely know they were on in either of my two classics. I replaced all the...
Could it be a "dead short" in the wiper motor?
They're a bugger to remove, but if you can get your hands on another wiper motor, you could connect it electrically ans
d see if the problem persists. I know they don't give those away, the wiring harness couldn't have been cheap and they are a...
I have two 66 Mopars, one is an "A" body and another a "B". I've been chasing a fuel gauge issue with both. Both seem to react alike, as when the tank is filled the gage reads correctly...for 10 miles, then drops rapidly making me uncomfortable leaving the sight of a gas station. I've replaced...
I know that Edelbrock is equipped with the electric choke... but have you checked to see if it is opening up completely? Could explain black plugs and a congested feel
