I have a spare set of 3 1/2'' draglites that I machined some spacers for to run them , but the 8 1/2'' american racing rims (a guy gave me for shipping) fit perfectly w/ the 295 60 d15`s ,(sretched front of wheel wells) . were too close to the outside on the 8''...
unless hi way mileage is the big thing , I`d think you could go with an aftermarket block way easier than trying to make a late hemi run right , and probly cheaper too ...
I understand your pain , mine was a basket case someone else took apart , not many baskets either , I had never messed with windows before , took me 3 months to get them back in after painting , pass. side is still stiff rolling up and down , have to open the door to roll it either way ...
this is why I rewired my 68 fastback your is 3 years older than mine , = 58 yr old wiring ?
From the looks of this , you can do it , sounds like you know more about 12 volt elec. than I do already !!

I have 295 60 d151s on a 68 barracuda , all in the fenders , 8 1/2'' wheels...
The springs have settled "caltracs" , the tires are up even with the inside of the rolled lip now ..
They used to make about 4-5 diff spring sets for diff. weight of cars. Probly stiil do. Chrysler always said, if u can`t hit it right on the exact weight, to go a hair liter on the spring, it will work better.
I had a new pair of M/h,N5015`s that jegs advertised for a 10" wheel, w/ less than 20 pounds of air they weren`t sitting on the ground flat, Jegs took them back, I can`t imagine them working on 8" rims !! I wouldn`t try it at all. the m/h tires never held anything I owned anyway, 14" slicks on...
