OK, he bought the car new which is cool but to anyone other than him, its a fairly pedestrian model. if it was so special to him, why did he trade it in after only 3 years? New family, needed something more practical? Gas crunch/insurance premiums...

    Sorry but this makes little sense on any level. If you have the scratch laying around to hand out a $10k finders fee, why not just find another one and build it the way you want? Whats the attachment to this particular VIN other than for 3 years you happened to own it?
