    mig welder on sale

For the price, and the size, it is not a bad deal for an entry-level welder. It has the gauges for gas. Most of us car guys wont weld anything over 1/4". The smaller welders like that have a nice touch for doing the thin sheet-metal that most of us car-guys do. The Harbor Freight welder cart...

    Spiders in my shop

All jokes and shite aside, Spiders do not like, or can live in a low humidity environment. I think its about 25-35% humidity that makes the spiders go away. Also, there is this product called "bug juice" by this one paint company. I used it in my garage. You add it to the paint, and all the...

New to me Air Compressor .. suggestions on what to do before use / best experience :)

The benefit of re-wiring that for 240, at that age, and its limited output is pointless. Donny is right. I have Craftsman 33 gal that is wired for 240, puts out 6.4cfm, and THAT nearly runs constantly for even a die grinder. So relegate it to tire inflation and other small tasks. Electrician...

    new garage

Im looking at a 30x60 with a loft. After the divorce, thats where I plan to live! More than enough room for basic bachelor needs, and my bff (best furry friend), my dog. And if I find a woman quirky enough to like it, then I'll build a house for all of us.

    Spiders in my shop

I used a product that think was called "Bug Juice". It is an additive that you can put into your paint. It is non-toxic to us, but bad for bugs that can walk on walls ans absorb it. http://www.wwenvironmental.com/bug_juice_factsheet.php

    Lift Drip Protector

I actually put those rare-earth magnets on my car. I put one on my oil drain plug, and another on my filter, on my daily driver (25k a year). They are still there at my 7500 mile synthetic oil change. Great insurance!

    Lift Drip Protector

The magnet is a good idea. I know for a fact that someone makes a rubberized magnetic strip in roll/tape form. Think "fridge magnet" material! That, and a plastic diaper under the upper car would do the job.

    Opinions on Parts washer fluid.

What we have in the tank in the tool-room, is a citrus-based de-greaser that don't do **** a room temp. But a few hours at 120deg, this stuff really works. Its a safe, non-toxic cleaner. Yeah, kerosine is the ultimate cleaner, but times are changing. I still swear by my turkey-roaster...

    Front End Alignment Tool

I just rebuilt the entire front-end in my wife's 01 Sebring sedan. Struts, lower joints, upper-joints, inner and outer tie-rods. Aligned it by eye, and took it for a few test rides. Put a few turns in to center the wheel, and correct a right pull. Incline meter said camber was under 0.5deg...

    Any thoughts on this welder??

Some of the China stuff is fair, and some sucks. Light-duty cycles and thin material may make it last. They usually go the cheapest on the things that count. Like a good torch, or foot control. If the unit itself goes bad, there are MANY sites out there that show you how to repair, and...

    Opinions on Parts washer fluid.

As a parts washer, I am currently using a 20 Qt turkey roaster with a 4-1 mix of water, and Simple-Green. I set it to med, and in the morning, carbon is able to brush-off from pistons! If you can wait, this will degrease almost almost anything you can throw at it.

Door skin crimp tool, anybody used one

Interesting note to this subject. My brother-in-law purchased a Fiat 500. I inspected the doors and trunk and found that the door and hatch seams had a seam-sealer applied to the outer surfaces at the hems. This was brushed-on before the paint, and was designed to accept paint adhesion. Lets...

Door skin crimp tool, anybody used one

You want the truth! You WANT the REAL truth? YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!! LOVED doing that! Ideally, the seam-sealer should fill the entire seam area during hemming. Squishing into, and out of the seam. This would produce a fully sealed seam. But the powers that be, don't like sealer to...

Door skin crimp tool, anybody used one

Very interesting! I actually program and repair robots that seal and hem the door at the factory. In the day, the hems were pressed by a two-stage die. Now we do it with a robot in a holding fixture. But we still do it in a two-stage process. Fold to 45-60 deg, then do the final hem...

    Blair tools

I dont think we touched on this, but I ALWAYS use a spring-loaded center punch to dimple all my welds prior to drilling. This keeps my Blair center point from skating. Lil' extra effort, but it does pay for itself.

    Come-A-Long

I bought a H.F. come-along to pull my brothers 87 Mustang onto a car trailer [5000lb I think]. ******* thing exploded just doing that! The sides of the cable drum broke off! They then pressed themselves against the sides if the frame. Nice thing on a 98 degree day on the way to Kentucky...

    Flourescent Fixtures

As an electrician, I have lit garages before. T12s are dead. T8's and T5's are the next generation. LED will be next, but not for a few years. T8's and T5's have a much better output in cold climes than the old T12's. FYI the 12, 8 and 5 refer to 1/8 of an inch in diameter. T12 is 12...
