Rod out side of transmission “name”? Purpose?

So, it appears to be a 904, correct? A better picture might get better results. It looks like an anchor pin for the throttle pressure linkage, commonly called kickdown linkage. Or so I think.

    A518/46rh trans build advice

You say model A, light weight car, stock components will work well. A "street" blown 331 would be equivalent to a 380 incher. Light weight is the key.

And, just for shits and giggles, a picture of a tube and stick that I made and used in 1966.

It looks good. I also see that the pan bolts were not overtightened, a good thing. Yes, the starter must be removed to take the cover off. I've known of people who cut the cover so that it can be removed without disturbing the starter.

All of them have a dust or gravel shield. The inspection cover was a small piece at the bottom of the dust cover to allow access to the converter drain plug 68-74 or so.

1979 Dodge Magnum 360-727 torqueflite squeaking in R,D,2,1

All above are good thoughts, except, the problem was first found after draining the 1 1/2 quarts, according to my reading of the original post. How would that crack the flex plate, and suddenly, it seemed, to cause the squeak? It did not squeak before the draining. The OP holds the key by...

A 340 is a direct bolt in, transmission wise, and will certainly wake the car up.

1979 Dodge Magnum 360-727 torqueflite squeaking in R,D,2,1

First, let's get the events straight, You drove this for a while with no offending noises? You checked the fluid level properly- car level, engine warm, at idle, in neutral? Or did you check with the engine off! It showed really high, and you removed 1 1/2 quarts. The immediate result was a...

727 is acting up... short 1-2 shift and won't part throttle kickdown

After the VB checkup and band adjustment, was the transmission sealed up really good with RTV? I mostly try to avoid the stuff. Bits of it find their way into the oil and goof up the valves. I suspect that some got into the governor. That might account for the changed shift points.

    Freeze Plug Popped Into Block

I've found several core plugs in engines, lost, probably like yours. Do not worry about rust, as I'm sure that you'll use antifreeze with anti-rust ingredients. Overheating- I really doubt it. If you are really vexed about it, a cheap borescope, about $50- $80 will probably allow you to see it...

    I need a flexplate edumacation

440 Source has been good with me. A bit lower prices and quality parts. Customer service is adequate, if you ask the right questions. The onus is on you to do the "due diligence." I believe that many of the gripes that are posted are from customers that failed to research.

    727 Not Pulling

A "soft" rebuild would be about $300. What is your time worth is the question. You asked about pressure ports. https://www.sonnax.com/tech_resources/250-chrysler-a727-a904-pressure-ports

    727 Not Pulling

The car drove for 50 miles seemed to be OK. Suddenly, no or very little forward movement. Reverse is OK. Forward clutch failure would be the prime suspect.

Can anyone help in identifying this 727?

The best way to answer that is, it's like a 10-day old easter egg, open it and smell it. Take the pan off and check for a telltale burned smell. Look for shiny specks, brownish oil, black charcoal looking sediment, all signs of problems. Pink oil with no junk is a positive sign. One caution...

Can anyone help in identifying this 727?

4028412 - 400 cu in 4028424 - 440 cu in Both 76-77. As an interesting sidenote, I just opened the 440 model and found that the front pinion set had the early, (62-75), spline angle. The transmission showed no signs of having been worked on. I've had that core since 78. I believe that it came...
