I would imagine the end of the rod that rides on the cam eccentric will be exposed to considerably more wear than the pump arm end. Wouldn't see why you couldn't use the oem steel version. Comp has the replacement with heat treated tips for around $30.
Agreed. First thing I'd do is pull the rod out and see how close to 3.22" it is and go from there. Been there with that same symptom and that's exactly what the problem was.
