I'm not saying not to eventually change the headers would not be high on my priority list as conventional larger ones are only going to help on the very top end
work through PIPEMAX first
backpressure is the most obvious thing for falling on its face at higher rpm- when the backpressue goes up
just pull the mufflers off and try it
I use 3" in 3" out Turbo mufflers 3" inside
don't get talked into larger headers
usual things work on timing curve
6 cyl torsion bars- give em a try
is that through the mufflers? if so not bad
check the backpressure on the mufflers and vacuum at High rpm and report
is that compression real with the heads cc'd and what's the deck clearance
10:1 is not much for that cam and...
do a compression check before and after each change
If you take of the timing cover check your chain and you might see markings on the front of the cam, check the chain
see if you have adj rockers and solid lifters- most likely you would have caught this some time
did you buy the purple shaft or...
so just don't use any old flywheel
you are in the lift range where you need to dbl check your rocker geometry
you flat tappet guys can also run amc lifters and oil the adjusters through the pushrods- works good
Great post
OP needs to factor in hard ex seats and new guides if he plans on putting many miles on his build
kb's are the way to go with iron heads
there is no easy fix
check your new heads for runout, valve stem clearance
shine a light in the ports and look around the seats
many need to be "blueprinted" out of the box" E just rushes the machine work or you get someone on the line having a bad day
first do not think of 906 heads unless race gas only NOT for street with pump gas
use the KB or Icon reverse deflector or custom pistons that fillup the intake side of the chamber
906 spark plug is in lousy location and chamber is really poor- will detonate no mater what compression on pump gas...
426 w compression height is way too tall for 383
There should be shelf quench pistons 4 383 but problem getting proper compression for street
CC EVERY HEAD- both ends many are not as advertised and the factor head specs are for minimum cc "blueprinted" NHRA spec heads not factory
GET QUENCH...
+3 needed ONLY if you have a lock up converter
Type F has Ford spec seal sweller and friction- NOT for long term use
will shift harder but not better I recommend the big Transgo Kit and stock fluid
