After media blasting our 8 3/4 diff we noticed it has a slightly bend tube on the right hand side. We began stripping it down . The left hand axel and backing plate went like clockwork. The righthand axel refuses to come out . ???
I assume the bend has caused the spline end of the axel to jam...
Finally got around to swiping 4 speeds in the RR. had to trim 10mm off input shaft as crank pilot hole not deep enough (must be an auto crank drilled after leaving factory). Put a pilot bearing in. Old 4 speed got an overhaul and it is going in my Cuda project as it had the correct shifter...
Took old 4 speed out and tried for hours to get replacement one in, was always 25mm ( 1") gap between housing and 4 speed casing. Finally took it out and used a ruler only to find the input shaft was 25mm longer on replacement one. Looks like the gearbox that came out has had its shaft...
I do not know anything about 4 speeds but this thrust bearing does not look good. Should the sharp edge be sticking up on the inside of the bearing face ? Buy a new one ? where is the best place to buy from ?
