Don't want to do something illegal or underhanded. I purchased a 67 Coronet 500 (supposedly) that has a plymouth fender tag and a Dodge VIN number. I wrote to get the correct factory documents so will be removing the Plymouth fender tag. Should I destroy it or can someone else use it on their car?

My new to me is supposed to be a 67 coronet 500. My fender tag at the lower left has RH23 my vin number starts with WP23.. Both tags are attached with sheet metal screws. Should they match and should part of my vin number be on the fender tag and vice versa?
