In September of 1933, my uncle Lucas Jerome Downing (Mom's brother) fell off a horse at the age of 21, fractured his skull, and died a couple of days later. At the time of the incident, he was with a rich friend named Brooke Hart.

Later that same year, Brooke Hart was kidnapped, murdered, and then the public broke into the jail and lynched (killed by hanging) the two kidnappers in a public park before they even had a trial.

I know it was illegal but after reading the story I side with the mob. They showed no mercy and neither did the mob.
 
"Signed confessions" is the operative phrase.
 
Looks like the times today isn't much different.....
