185 mph!! Dayam. Camille in 69 was 175. I stayed for Ike which hit here dead on but the thing was so huge that it lost steam (I'm guessing) as it got close to land and was a strong Cat 1 as it came in. Sure didn't like being in it one bit either and it lasted for way too long. During the eye which lasted for 45 minutes X2 and I walked up and down the street looking at the mess of tree limbs etc. This street is just over 1/4 mile long and had plenty of time to get back to the house when the first hint of a breeze hit us. Sustained winds with that one was 145 and it filled the whole Gulf of Mexico.

I remember Camille in 69. It blew over our swing set. My younger brother and I were so mad !! LOL

My Dad was out helping people evacuate and my Mom was acting like it was no big deal. Many years later she told us that she was scared because of Besty in 65 caused so much damage.

I guess it comes down to wild fires in the west, hurricanes in the east and tornados in the middle and covid coast to coast..where ya wanna live? Seems like we all gotta put up with something or another. Stay safe, keep the generator fueled up and hang on brother, prayers are with you guys.

This is the reason you are supposed to be wealthy.... and have 3 homes to get away from such natural disasters!!! But hard to run from the China Bug!!!!
Cat. 5 hurricanes is hugely terrible. An F5 torando will not leave a trace.

Been looking at moving out to central west Texas. A buddy of mine lives in Kerrville and there's a decent car culture there but that area is a little bit expensive. Going to get more serious looking about where to go.....

I guess you guys know that it goes without saying that I hope for the best for all of you!! Please be safe!!

My great aunt once told me of her experience with the 1935 hurricane. I don't recall now which key her house was on, but she told me that during the first half of the storm, her house was almost destroyed. When the wind let up during the eye passing over, she got out of what was left of her house and put her arms around a palm tree, spending the second half of the storm that way. Even in her old age, she was quite a scrappy lady.
