I have a 64 Dodge 330,was factory 383 3 speed, are the early big block bellhousing drilled for both 3 and 4 speed.I'm not familiar with the earlier cars.Drivetrain is missing would like to put back stock. Does anyone have one laying around. Thanks

Well a 383 is easy enough to find if you don't care what year it is. I'm guessing yours is a column shift 3 speed? Starting in 70 Ma Mopar started putting 3 speeds in as the "standard trans" to get around some insurance stuff. Bet you can find someone who has ditched theirs in favor of a 4 speed. The difference would be that yours would not have a slip yoke, but will be set up for the ball and trunnion. As far as bellhousings goes, I don't think they will have dual patterns on them.

It was column shift, motor ,trans. missing.Would like to find 383 4bbl motor coded before 1-7-64 and correct bellhousing,3 speed.Have read that pursuit cars with 3 speed may have had special trans. in them. Not for sure though.Have always liked 62-65's but I'm new to these years. This car is a 2 door sedan, highway patrol car.thank for your help.

383 3spd

You have an interesting car, the sort that most people dont get into, but I do. The bellhousing was different between 3 and 4 speeds. The housing you will want, to keep the 3 speed is casting 2402683. The 1965 number for same deal , 3 spd, is 2468450. They are not common, only because so many got pitched in favor of 4 spd conversion. If it were any other car, not the police, I'd convert to a 4 speed in a minute. Getting a trans will take some waiting but Im sure one is floating around out there. Perhaps keep your options open by acquiring a 4 speed set up if the deal comes around. The engine will be available out of some C body, newport or 880 car.

I'm agree, if it wasn't a police unit I'd swap it also.Just think it should be put back together the way it came. Hopefully I can find what I need. Thanks for your help.

Wondering if anyone can help decode fender tag. Some of it I have had trouble with. Thanks

Hey copcar, interesting to say the least. I too have a 64 State Trooper pursuit vehicle. It's from Kentucky. Certified speedo and it was a 727 B&T, 383. It's on the rotisserie as we speak and will get a 440, 727 transplant. I do have a 64 dated 4 speed B&T complete with bell, tranny, linkage, pressure plate. Wont be using it so tell me if your interested in something of that nature. I'm in West Plains, Mo and i'll try and post some pics soon. Not much to look at for now. Waiting on floor pans for now.
Small Block

Codes are in last post from April 12th.Letters with corresponding numbers from fender tag.Small Block I"d like to see pictures of your car.If you got any before disassembly those would be interesting to.Mine has been setting for years.Outer body is pretty solid, floor boards will need replacing due to rubber mat.Want to put this car back as it was in the day.Gonna need a big block 3sp bellhousing, thanks for the 4 speed offer though!

If i can find the bubble gum unit for the top i've been thinking of painting it Black and White, complete with torque thrusts.

That would be cool,I have thought about building something similiar to the Muscle Machine copcars.Think it would be kinda wild.

big block 3 speed trans

Hello. I just joined the site and saw your post about 64/65 big block 3 speed cars.

I recently aquired a A-745 trans and bellhousing, (2468450-65 361/383 3-speed w/10 1/2" clutch). The trans is listed as HD police and taxi w/big block.
The trans has a splined output shaft with a bolt on flange.

If this is what you need I will let both go for $275.00.

Will.... bluefury361@yahoo.com...256-214-2792. In Alabama.
