The saga continues with my power brake fiasco with my 1964 Dodge Polara. After giving up on Booster Dewey I took my booster to NAPA to have them send it in for rebuild. I got the booster back and it appears the push rod that goes from the booster to the brake pedal is too short. I don't think they rebuilt mine, I think the company sent me a replacement. When I installed the booster the brake light switch was about 1/2" away from contacting the push rod. Does anyone know how long the rod should be from centerline of rod hole to booster? I think there are two lengths, 1 is 4 3/4" but I can't remember what the other was. Does anyone know what the dimension is?

Here's a pic of my '64 Polara [Convertible] booster which is off the car and on a shelf in my barn. My car isn't a 500, and it still has the factory drum brakes all around. If I measured the rod on my booster would it be of any help to you?

Yes please. It is the rod that goes to the pedal. Need the dimension from the face of the booster to the center of the rod eye. Thanks.

OK....give me some time to get that for you. I'll be back within the hour and will also try to photograph what I'm measuring. You know what the say a picture is worth.. :)

By the way, have you tried contacting the brake guy who used to be called The Ramman? He rebuilt the original (rare) booster for my 1970 Cuda about 3 years ago and I had no complaints. He was based in Texas at the time but I'm not sure what his status is nowadays...

My booster measures 5 1/2" from the center of the rod hole to the face of the booster. I removed the dust cover/gasket to be as accurate as possible for you....

I believe this booster is factory original and would appreciate it if you or someone else reading this thread could either confirm that for me or educate me as to what this actually is if it isn't original. Thanks!

In all seriousness, I think im hitting a junkyard saturday, i'll hunt for one and see if we cant simply swap the push rod to the one you need

It has been a little frustrating. I told my wife the other night I'm about ready to take the bible out to the shop and perform an exorcism on the car, it seems to be demon possessed. I did build a bracket and have converted the car over to manual brakes so I can at least drive it. I'm getting pretty good at working under the dash though. I can have the pedal unhooked and the booster removed in about 10 minutes. So learning skills at least.
