1967 GTX steering wheel color

Should the standard steering wheel color on a 1967 GTX match the interior? I have seen many with just black ones.

My red interior 67 has a red wheel. I can't speak with any absolute knowledge but I believe they were color keyed to the interior. My theory as to why you see some with a mis-matched black wheel is that I suspect the black wheels are tougher for some reason and less prone to cracking. When I replaced my cracked one, I bought a good used black one that was completely crack free and then painted it mettalic red with urethane paint.
