Hey there guys looking for some direction with a motor rebuild. Working with a complete 383 motor that was in my running car. Yrs ago I pulled the motor and then the project sat due to life gettin in the way.... Now I'm back at it.

383 with 68 cast numbers
Stock heads
unknown headers
.60 over
flattop pistons
weiand team g intake
750 edelbrock carb

Last week I tore the motor down to a short block.
Found out that it's is bored .60 over
also found a bent pushrod
And a lil wear and tear on the top of the piston. Looks like it maybe got taped by the valve...??
will be pulling the cam tomorrow and seein what is in it

new to this being my first big block build. I'll be updating this topic forum to give more info and hopefully seek some knowledge from your guys here to help build this thing back up.

thanks
matt

What do you expect out of the car? Meaning performance wise?

Good luck with your rebuild. You'll get lots of good help here. As Meep said, Just know where you want that 383 to be at the end of the day. Cruiser, street, drag car...will be a big difference in how you approach certain parts of the build.

I'm lookin at making a nice street car nothing crazy wild. Something reliable and good to rip around town. But it does need to have a pair if ya know what I mean. Lol

image.jpgSo when I tore down the motor I noticed the front cylinder is a little worked... Looks to be a valve imprint and some damage to the top of the piston. Something got pummeled in there..This I feel it where the bent rod came from....

image.jpgThe cam is stamped "Lunati" SPG 1300 110? Can anyone help me identify this or tell me what I'm workin with.. Again the motor is .60 over with stock heads.

If your block is at .060 over already, should consider finding another block. .060 block is pretty much at it's limit.

thats what i heard as well, i guess ill see how bad it is and then go from there, I'm rebuilding the whole thing anyhow so it really would make more sense.

383 is a dang good motor. Had my share of them. Should be good blocks around...just need enough meat in them, to make them work.
If, and that's a big if, your 60 over bores would clean up with a light touch, possible it would go. But, kinda doubt it will. It needs to be right, if you want it to go.

Good luck on it! (And...if you want it done right, do it yourself!!)

I looked around on your cam and I found numbers but not those. Anytime I found lunati, it was with spc not spg. Spc....small block chebby.

Try contacting lunati..
