Did the 1968 Dodge Charger come with trunk fiberboard panels on the sides and back? If not, is it just left open so you see the inside of the rear quarters, top of the fenders and the back of the lights? If all of this shows, what color should the inside quarters and fenders be painted? Thanks!

No fiber boards. Just the mat. Painted body color. There was a plastic cover that went across the back and covered the tail lights.

No side or rear panels. The inside of the trunk is painted body color. The trunk floor has a rubber mat originally

Two questions: Was the mat plaid, herringbone or houndstooth? Does anyone sell the plastic cover across the back to the cover the tail lights? Thanks!

68 isn't one panel across the back, it's two smaller covers... 69-70 have full width lights & full width covers... No reproduced that I'm aware of...

I believe that the tail light covers were ‘69 and ‘70 only. I’ve never seen one on a ‘68.

@Richard Cranium

I think I remember by buddies' 68 having covers but that would have been early-mid 70's & I can't be sure my memories haven't been "Altered" by past deeds...

67 was the last year of the high end finished trunks.

68 Chargers did not have the tail light covers. From what I understand, there is a slight diference between the 69 & 70 covers, but I don't know what it is.

To my knowledge the mat was whatever they had on the line, but will wait to see what the experts have to say.

I just checked my Dave Wose book and it's mentioned that the gray houndstooth was found in lynch road 68 coronets and chargers.

I agree 68's did not have covers. Sure, wish they had as the light get knocked loss occasionally.

I think that you could put a 69/70 cover in there if you are not to worried about it being 100 percent correct.
